infinitives: using  to  I want to go.  Must you go?






            We usually put to with infinitives.

            I want to go home. (NOT / want go home.)      It's important to get enough sleep.
            I telephoned my sister to say sorry.
            But we use infinitives without to after do/does/did in questions and negatives (see pages 104 and 113).

            Does John speak Russian? (NOT Does John to speak.. r?)       I didn't understand.
            We also use infinitives without to after modal verbs {can, could, may, might, will, would, shall, should,
            must-see Section 6).

            I can't swim. (NOT / can't to swim.)   Must you go now?       We should find a hotel.

               Put in to or nothing (-).

            We make negative infinitives with not (to) + verb.
            Try not to forget your keys. (NOT... to not forget...)   Be careful not to wake Paul up.
            I told you not to telephone me here.    I'm sorry not to stay longer.
            The company did not make any money last year.        You must not park in front of the school.
