            Some ve r b s  have pr e p o s i t i o n s  with them (see page 141)- for example look at, listen to.

            When re l a t i v e  p r o n o u n s  are the ob j e c t s  of these verbs, there are tw o   p o s s i b i l i t i e s :
            •  k e e p  t h e   p r e p o s i t i o n   w i t h   t h e  v e r b   ( m o r e   i n f o r m a l ;  w e   c a n   l e a v e   o u t  who(m)/which/that.)

               The woman smiled. I was looking at her.  —►  The woman (whom/that) I was looking at smiled.
               The flat was dirty. He lived in it. —► The flat he lived in was dirty.

            •  p u t  t h e   p r e p o s i t i o n   b e f o r e   whom/which (v e r y  fo r m a l )
               The woman at whom I was looking smiled.
               The flat in which he lived was dirty.


               Change these expressions to make them more conversational. Use that.
